Your Orthotics Appointment – What to Expect

Your bespoke orthotics fitting appointment at Foot Factor involves several steps to ensure that the orthotics are custom-made to address your specific needs.
Here’s what typically happens…

Free initial consultation and review in the first month

Foot Factor offers a free 30-minute, no-obligation consultation to discuss your needs. We focus on listening to your needs and concerns, your medical history, current symptoms and any existing conditions. Following this if you wish to proceed with custom insoles a further hour is required.

Assessment of gait, posture & feet

We assess your gait (the way you walk), posture and alignment. This can identify abnormalities like overpronation or supination.

We will then examine your feet, ankles, and lower legs, checking for imbalances, pressure points, or areas of discomfort, plus your range of motion and strength.

Foot scanning

The technology used at Foot Factor provides the most comprehensive motion analysis available to date. The results of your foot scan are synchronised with our video gait analysis, biomechanical and postural analysis, and joint movement testing. This creates a detailed and holistic picture of the forces acting on your feet and throughout your body.

Making your orthotics

We begin by creating precise unique templates from which your orthotics are made. We work with your footprints rather than your shoe size so your orthotics will fit into any shoes. Both feet are moulded individually using your natural body weight and stance. Optimum alignment is then checked for sitting down and non-weight bearing.

Once aligned, different materials and layers are prepared for each footprint. They are warmed up and softened ready to be precisely moulded to your feet. Finally, each orthotic is individually shaped and ground for a perfect custom fit.

90 minutes is all it takes for you to walk away with your orthotics in place, ready to wear at the end of the appointment.
